The trail to Tungnath Temple — the world's highest Shiva shrine — is 4 km one-way from Chopta. The well-paved, scenic path passes through dense rhododendron and oak forests and offers stunning views of Kedar Peak and Nanda Devi. Suitable for beginners and families, it typically takes 2–3 hours one-way.
Continue 1 km beyond Tungnath to reach the Chandrashila Summit at 4,000 m. The final climb is steep but rewarding with a 360° panorama of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, and Bandarpunch. This is a must-do for any trekker visiting Chopta. Best enjoyed at sunrise.
